# Candidate FAQs

> Answers about candidate accounts, simulations, marketplace sessions, analytics, billing, and support.

*This document answers the most frequently asked questions about using Clarilux as a candidate. Topics are organised by feature area for easy reference.*

## Section 1 - Getting Started

    Clarilux is an integrated platform for medical board success, blending AI simulations with live examiner evaluations.

  <Accordion title="Who is Clarilux designed for?">
    Clarilux serves three primary user groups:

    * **Candidates:** Medical residents or physicians preparing to sit for their oral board exams (primarily Anesthesiology, with expansion into Emergency Medicine and other specialties).
    * **Examiners:** Board-certified specialists who conduct simulations, provide feedback, and grade candidates.
    * **Institutions:** Medical schools, hospitals, or residency programs managing a collective group of examiners and candidates.

  <Accordion title="How do I create an account on Clarilux?">
    Navigate to the Clarilux landing page via the official access link and click **Sign Up** in the top right corner. On the Role Selection page, choose **Candidate**. You will then be presented with three sign-up options:

    * **Sign up with Google:** Register using your existing Google account.
    * **Sign up with Microsoft:** Register using your existing Microsoft account.
    * **Continue with Email:** Register manually by entering your full name, email address, and a strong password, and then click **Create Account**.

    Once registered, check your inbox and click the verification link to activate your account.

  <Accordion title="Do I need any special hardware to use Clarilux?">
    No specialized hardware is required. You only need a reliable device with a microphone and a stable internet connection to interact with the AI Examiner.

  <Accordion title="How much does Clarilux cost?">
    Clarilux offers tiered subscription plans tailored to your needs. Please refer to the billing & subscription page on the platform for current rates and available plan options.

  <Accordion title="Can I cancel my subscription?">
    Yes. You can manage your subscription at any time from the **Billing & Subscription** section of your account. If you have passed your boards or no longer need the service, you can cancel your subscription directly from there.

## Section 2 - Dashboard

  <Accordion title="What does my dashboard show after I log in?">
    Once your account is verified and you log in, you will land on your Candidate Dashboard. The dashboard is organised into the following sections:

    * **Performance Overview:** Displays your Exam Readiness progress bar, which tracks your journey across three stages - Building Foundation, Strengthening Reasoning, and Board Ready - giving you a clear visual benchmark of where you currently stand.
    * **Weekly Study Goal:** Shows your study hours completed against your set weekly target, along with your completion percentage.
    * **Daily Streak:** Tracks the number of consecutive days you have been active on the platform to help you maintain study consistency.
    * **Jump Back In:** Displays your recently accessed topics (e.g., Endocrine, Hematology, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary) with individual progress bars so you can quickly resume where you left off.
    * **Past Cases:** A log of your previously graded exam cases. If no graded exams are available yet, it will display 'No graded exam available yet.'
    * **Next Recommendations:** AI-driven suggestions for your next study sessions based on your performance data, displayed as a list of topics (e.g., Orthopedics, Clinical Anesthesia, Pharmacology, Physiology) you can jump into directly.

  <Accordion title="What does the Exam Summary show?">
    When you click on a past case from the dashboard, it takes you to the Oral Board section where your Exam Summary is displayed. This is your full post-session performance report. It shows:

    * **Overall Average:** Your aggregate score across all rubrics (e.g., 1.0/5), displayed with a performance label such as Needs Attention.

    * **Exam Outcome:** A clear Pass or Fail verdict for the full session.

    * **Total Time Spent:** The total duration of the session in minutes.

    * **Total Cases Completed:** The number of cases covered in the session.

    * **Total Questions:** The total number of questions asked across all cases.

    * **Performance Evaluation (per case):** Each case is listed by name (e.g., Cardiovascular (CV) / Cardiac (Long)). Within each case, your performance is scored across five rubrics, each out of 5, with a progress bar and written feedback beneath each score:

    * Medical Knowledge & Clinical Reasoning

    * Clinical Judgment & Decision-Making

    * Communication

    * Adaptability & Crisis Management

    * Organization & Information Synthesis

    * **View Transcript:** Click the **View Transcript** button on the top right corner of the performance evaluation to open the full session transcript. The transcript displays the complete case scenario, every question asked by the AI Examiner, and your responses - allowing you to review exactly how the session unfolded and identify areas to improve.

## Section 3 - Oral Board

    The oral board is an interactive board-style exam where candidates engage with an AI examiner through realistic clinical scenarios using text and voice.

    The platform covers a comprehensive range of clinical domains, including:

    * Cardiovascular & Neuro - high-stakes management and physiology
    * Obstetrics - specialized care and maternal-fetal considerations
    * Pain Management & Pharmacology - drug interactions and therapeutic pathways
    * Endocrine, Trauma, Pulmonary, and more

  <Accordion title="How do I start an Oral Board session?">
    Follow these steps to begin a session:

    * **Log in** and access your account via the secure login page.
    * **Navigate to Oral Board:** From the left-side menu (Dashboard, Oral Board, Question Bank, Marketplace, Analytics), click Oral Board.
    * **Choose a subject:** Select from the available topics (e.g., Endocrine).
    * **Review Session Summary:** The screen will display a summary - 2 cases, a 10-minute study period before each case, 35 minutes of case time, and 2 grab bags. Click Begin Session.
    * **Configure your experience:** While the first case is preparing, choose your preferred interaction method: **Avatar**, **Voice**, or **Text**. Click **Continue**.
    * **Study Period:** The case scenario will be displayed. You have 10 minutes to read the question, draft answers, and perform calculations. You can wait or click **Begin Early** to start immediately.

  <Accordion title="How does an Oral Board session work?">
    Each active session lasts exactly 35 minutes per case. Here is what to expect:

    * **First Case:** The active session begins and lasts 35 minutes. It will be either a long-form or short-form scenario.
    * **After the First Case:** You will have two options - click **Continue Later** to pause and immediately view your score for the first case, or Keep Going to proceed directly to the second case without viewing your score yet.
    * **Second Case:** If you continue, you will begin a second 35-minute case.
    * **Final Score:** At the end of the full 70-minute exam (35 minutes per case), the session concludes, and you are presented with your comprehensive score for both cases.

  <Accordion title="Any tips for getting the most out of Oral Board sessions?">
    Here are a few study tips for success:

    * **Simulate the environment:** Find a quiet space and respond out loud to mimic the actual board experience.
    * **Focus on diversity:** Rotate through all categories including Pharmacology and Pain Management to find and address knowledge gaps.
    * **Review feedback:** After each session, analyze the evaluation to understand how to better structure your clinical justifications.

## Section 4 - Question Bank

    The Question Bank is a dedicated practice hub designed exclusively for candidates. It allows you to sharpen your knowledge through focused, multiple-choice questions organized by specialized medical and surgical topics.

    It covers the core domains of Anesthesiology today, with additional specialties being added in future releases.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How does a Question Bank practice session work?">
    Select your desired topic and click **Start Practice**. The system guides you through an interactive learning loop:

    * **Instant Feedback:** After selecting your answer and clicking Submit, the platform immediately validates your choice - correct answers are highlighted in light green with a checkmark (✓), incorrect answers in light red with an X.
    * **Comprehensive Review:** Below the feedback, the platform instantly shows the correct answer, a detailed explanation of the underlying concept, and further reading recommendations.
    * **Bookmarking:** Click the Bookmark icon on any challenging question to save it to your personal study list for later review.
    * **Continuous Learning:** You can answer as many questions as you like in a single session, moving sequentially from one question to the next.
    * **Ending a Session:** There is no fixed time limit. Click **End Practice** at any point to conclude your session.

    Once a session ends, a Session Complete summary screen is displayed showing:

    * **Accuracy:** A circular progress indicator showing your overall accuracy percentage for the session.
    * **Questions Attempted:** The total number of questions you answered during the session.
    * **Correct Answers:** The number of questions you answered correctly.
    * **Average Time per Question:** The average time you spent per question.

    From here, you can either click **Go to Dashboard** to return to your home screen or **Start New Practice** to begin another session.

## Section 5 - Marketplace

  <Accordion title="What is the Marketplace?">
    The Marketplace is a feature exclusive to candidates. It serves as the central hub for discovering examiners, booking sessions, managing schedules, and tracking financial transactions. It is split into three modules: Find Examiner, Sessions, and Payment.

  <Accordion title="What is the difference between the Public and Private Marketplace?">
    * **Public Marketplace:** Visible to all registered candidates, allowing you to browse and book any examiner publicly available on the Clarilux platform.
    * **Private Marketplace:** If you are associated with a specific institution, your view will be restricted exclusively to examiners officially affiliated with that institution.

  <Accordion title="How do I search for and book an examiner?">
    Use the filters on the left panel to narrow down your search:

    * **Session Type:** Filter by Full Mock Oral Exam, Focused Topic Review, Rapid-Fire Q\&A, or Case-Based Discussion.
    * **Topics:** Select from the available medical or surgical topics using the dropdown.
    * **Availability:** Filter by Available Today, Available This Week, or Available This Weekend.
    * **Price Range:** Filter by budget - \$0-\$100, \$100-\$200, \$200-\$300, \$300-\$500, or \$500+.
    * **Rating:** Filter by star rating from 1 Star to 5 Stars to find top-rated examiners.

    You can also search directly by name or topic using the search bar. Once you select an examiner, review their profile - including their About section, professional experience, session pricing, and cancellation policy. Select an available time slot, book your session, and proceed to payment.

  <Accordion title="How do I track my booked sessions?">
    Navigate to **Market Place > Sessions**. This area is split into two tabs:

    * **Upcoming Sessions:** Displays all your future confirmed sessions. You can sort by Date (Soonest or Latest), filter by Session Type (Full Mock Oral Exam, Focused Topic Review, Rapid-Fire Q\&A, Case-Based Discussion, or Custom Session), and filter by Visibility (Public or Private).
    * **Session History:** A complete archive of all past sessions, displayed in a table with columns for Date, Examiner, Details (session type, time slot, and duration), and Status (e.g., Completed or Missed). You can filter by All Dates, Session Type, All Statuses, and Visibility.

  <Accordion title="What can I do from my session history">
    Click the options menu (•••) next to any session in your Session History to:

    * View Resources - see any materials shared for that session.
    * View Recording - watch the recorded session.
    * View Score - see your score and feedback for that session.

  <Accordion title="How do I join a session, and what can I do once I'm in?">
    Click **Join Session** from **Upcoming Sessions** - you can join 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Once in, you can share your screen, use the chat box, raise your hand, change your video background, use the whiteboard, and view resources shared for the session.

  <Accordion title="How do I manage payments in the Marketplace?">
    Navigate to **Market Place > Payments**. The page displays:

    * **Total Payments Made:** A summary card showing your cumulative total spend across all sessions.
    * **Refund Sessions:** A summary card showing the total amount refunded to you.

    Below the summary cards, a transaction table lists all your payment records with columns for Booking, Amount, and Status. You can filter transactions by status:

    * Pending
    * Paid
    * Refunded
    * Failed
    * Disputed

    For any transaction, click the Receipt (PDF) button to download an official payment receipt for your personal records or institutional reimbursement.

## Section 6 - Analytics

    Analytics is a powerful data dashboard built exclusively for candidates. It tracks your overall learning journey, monitors preparation consistency, and delivers targeted insights. The Analytics page includes:

    * **Average Score:** Your mean score calculated across all completed practice exam simulations.
    * **Simulations Completed:** A total count of full-length practice exam simulations you have successfully finished across all topics.
    * **Total Study Time:** A cumulative tracker showing the total hours and minutes spent actively studying on the platform.
    * **Overall Performance Trend:** A visual progression chart showing whether your average scores and accuracy are improving, stabilizing, or dropping over time. Filterable by time frame.
    * **Performance by Topic:** A granular breakdown of your data by individual subject areas (e.g., Cardiovascular, Trauma, Pulmonary) to identify specific knowledge gaps.

## Section 7 - Profile & Account Settings

    Click on your **Initials** in the top right corner of the application and select **My Profile** from the dropdown menu. From the Candidate profile you can manage:

    * **Profile Information:** View, edit, and update your core personal details.
    * **Preferences:** Set and adjust your weekly study goals to stay on track, and configure daily reminders to maintain study consistency.
    * **Security:** Access account protection settings to update or change your password.

  <Accordion title="Can I switch between institutions without signing out?">
    Yes. If you have been added to an institution and accepted the invitation, you can switch between your available workspaces directly from the top right corner of the dashboard - next to the notification bell. Click the workspace name currently displayed (e.g., Public Clarilux) to reveal a dropdown listing all institutions you have access to, then select the one you want to switch to. There is no need to sign out and sign back in.

    When you switch to an institution workspace, your experience on the platform updates to reflect that institution's context. The left-hand menu updates to include **My Programs** in addition to Dashboard, Oral Board, Question Bank, Marketplace and Analytics. T
